> Sacramento traffic tickets are handled by the Sacramento Superior Court Traffic Division. The Public Case Access System lets you pay in full, request traffic school or ask for a monthly payment plan. You can also pay by card at the Call Center, (916) 875-7800.

## How do you contact Sacramento traffic court?

The Sacramento Superior Court's Traffic Division lists these ways to reach it.

## What can you do online?

Through the Public Case Access System you can look up your case, pay, request traffic school or ask for a payment plan. The court's Traffic Division page lists three main choices: pay a ticket, schedule a court appearance, or request traffic school. Appearances are in person or by Zoom ([Penal Code 1428.5](https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displaySection.xhtml?lawCode=PEN&sectionNum=1428.5)).

If you need a live person, the Call Center and the Virtual Public Counter are the alternatives. Mail or a drop box also works, but postmarks are not accepted, so a late envelope does not count as on time.

## What happens when you pay?

Paying in full is a **bail forfeiture**: you give up the right to contest, and the conviction is reported to the DMV. The court says the same for starting a payment plan, which also makes the case ineligible for traffic school. The court says 10% of the full amount is required as a down payment.

If you might want traffic school or a trial, do not pay first. The amounts depend on your violation; use the [ticket cost calculator](https://californiaticketguide.com/ticket-cost-calculator/) for statewide totals.

## How does traffic school work in Sacramento?

The court lists its eligibility rules under California Rules of Court, rule 4.104. Check each item.

- A valid non-commercial license.
- You were not driving a commercial vehicle (see VC 15210(b)).
- No traffic school sign-up in the 18 months before the ticket date.
- A moving violation that carries a DMV point.
- No misdemeanor or commercial vehicle charge.
- No mandatory court appearance.

Under [VC 41501](https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displaySection.xhtml?lawCode=VEH&sectionNum=41501), only one conviction within 18 months will be held confidential. Traffic school costs the full bail (VC 42007) and the school's own fee is separate; confirm the current amounts with the court. Under VC 42005, a commercial license holder may attend only if the vehicle required just a class C or M license. See [traffic school or fighting the ticket](https://californiaticketguide.com/traffic-school-or-fight/).

## Can you appear by Zoom?

Yes. The court offers appearances by Zoom as well as in person, citing [Penal Code 1428.5](https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displaySection.xhtml?lawCode=PEN&sectionNum=1428.5), and a Virtual Public Counter for clerk help by Zoom. Check your notice for any mandatory in-person appearance, and see the court's Traffic Division page for how to join.

## What if you can't afford the fine?

The court offers community service referral and an ability-to-pay fine reduction on request. Ask before the due date. Ignoring the ticket can lead to a [failure to appear](https://californiaticketguide.com/failure-to-appear/).

Before you call or log in, have your citation number, your driver's license number and the due date in front of you. The Call Center takes card payments, so say at the start what you need.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the phone number for Sacramento traffic court?

The court's ticket options page lists two numbers for different uses. Call (916) 875-7800, the Call Center, to pay with a credit or debit card. The page says additional options may be available by calling (916) 669-5712. Confirm current hours and what each line handles on the court's Traffic Division page before you call.

### Where do I go for a Sacramento traffic ticket?

Your citation or courtesy notice names the court location and your date. This guide lists no counter address, because we could not confirm one on the court's own site. Check the court's locations page before you travel, and use the Public Case Access System or the Call Center if you can handle the ticket without a visit.

### What does traffic school cost in Sacramento?

Under VC 42007, the traffic school fee equals the total bail for the offense, and the school you attend charges its own fee separately. Other fees can apply. This guide lists no Sacramento fee amount or deadline, because we could not confirm them. Request traffic school through the Public Case Access System and ask the court for current figures.

### Can I set up a payment plan?

Yes. The court lists payment plans among its options, and the court says 10% of the full amount is required as a down payment. Starting a payment plan is a bail forfeiture, which reports a conviction to the DMV and makes the case ineligible for traffic school. If you want school or a trial, decide first.

### Does paying the ticket close my case?

Paying in full ends the case with a conviction. The court calls this bail forfeiture: the conviction is reported to the DMV and your option to contest ends. A payment plan counts the same way. If you may want traffic school or a trial, ask the court before paying.
